Handwoven Basket inspired by Scotland's Fair Isle Straw-Backed Chairs

This contemporary basket draws inspiration from the traditional straw-backed chairs of Fair Isle, reinterpreted through sustainable, garden-grown plant fibres. Broad lengths of hand-twisted daylily cordage are wrapped around the sides to create bold, sculptural contours. Finer Iris sibirica cordage is threaded through a solid oak bark base and worked upward, securing the daylily elements as the vessel takes shape.

Over time, the soft green tones of the iris leaves will mellow naturally, adding depth and character to this handcrafted piece.
