On this half day course, we will investigate a variety of natural plant materials, before we focus on making our own natural 2-ply string/cordage.
Making cordage is an ancient practice that has many uses today. It can form mats, baskets or other crafted items or simply useful in the garden.
You will leave with the confidence to create your own cordage, knowing a variety of plant materials to use. We will explore items made with cordage, and the weaving techniques used. If time allows, once you have mastered making cordage, we will begin creating a simple coaster or wristband.
This course will open your eyes to what's possible to create, using the natural resources around.
This course will take place at The Gardener's Bothy at Staunton Harold. Teas, coffee and biscuits will be provided. All necessary tools will be provided. This course is suitable for complete beginners or those with some basketry weaving experience.
