Learn how to work with willow bark to make a natural bark basket.
We will start exploring how to harvest this natural resource, before we focus on turning naturally dried bark into a flexible, leather like material, to work with. We will learn to cut, fold and weave using traditional basketry techniques, and learn to incorporate a variety of soft materials, such as rush to bind the bark together. Add your own creativity of style to make this basket truly yours.
You will leave with the confidence to use bark, with the understanding of how to harvest bark, and the skills to weave with traditional techniques and combine bark with other soft materials. This course will open your eyes to what's possible to create, using the natural resources around.
This course will take place inside a large beautifully converted barn space at Manor House Farm in the tranquil setting of Sheldon, near Bakewell, in the Peak District. Teas, coffee and biscuits will be provided. Please bring your own lunch. All necessary tools will be provided. This course is suitable for complete beginners or those with some basketry weaving experience.
